In Mexico there are companies that seek to get involved to preserve Mexican ecosystems. For some years, Grupo Toks, faithful to its commitment to social responsibility, has been doing very well, with practices that are an example for its collaborators and clients.
Toks in favor of the Monarch butterfly habitat
Past collaborators of Grupo Toks met at the Sierra Chincua Monarch Chile Mobile Number List Butterfly sanctuary, which is located in the Llano de las Papas near Angangueo, Michoacán. This place is characterized by having oyamel in its vegetation, a type of pine that serves perfectly to protect the monarch butterfly during this period.
Monarch butterfly sanctuaries are natural spaces that have the main function of protecting this species of insects in their hibernation stage.
These places are protected by the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP). The main function of these natural areas is to conserve ecosystems and their biodiversity, thus maintaining the vital functions of the environment through sustainable development plans.
The magic of sanctuaries
In the fall of each year, millions of butterflies undertake a long journey from Canada and the northeastern US, to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary Biosphere Reserve in the state of Michoacán.
When the butterflies arrive at these sites, the trees turn orange during the fall and winter season, and while that happens this natural spectacle is visited by thousands of people.
According to CONANP , in Mexico there are 18 sanctuaries that house the monarch butterfly, these are located near the state of Michoacán and the State of Mexico. These places are usually very beautiful forests, but when the insects arrive from their long journey they make them look even more beautiful.
Toks' experience in this nature reserve
These places are usually beautiful naturally, however there are external factors that can damage them considerably. That is why community members, visitors, organizations, government and the business sector must come together to promote activities that help protect these areas.
In this place, the ejidatarios of the area and collaborators of Grupo Toks gathered very early to carry out corporate environmental volunteering for the first time in this majestic place.
The activity that the volunteers carried out together with members of the community was a day of cleaning in the areas near the sanctuary, collecting garbage on the banks of the roads and trails that lead to the habitat of these insects.
On this occasion, around 80 collaborators from the different companies run by Grupo Toks and 250 ejidators of this ecological reserve were divided into zones to begin working in favor of this place.
Volunteers managed to collect nearly 60 large bags of trash, resulting in almost half a ton of trash in just five hours. Incredible but true! Resulting in a satisfactory and awareness-raising experience for collaborators.
Felipe Meza, director of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve , explained that the insects begin to arrive approximately in the first days of November, so volunteer activities at this time are enriching for the protected areas because they help preserve their habitat.
It is extremely important to highlight that the entire Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve is a world natural heritage site, this was decreed by UNESCO in 2008. The reserve contributes to society with a great diversity of ecosystem services in the region.
